Moving Ahead with LGBT Protections

Breaking News from our friends at Freedom For All Americans

In a major victory for the LGBT non-discrimination movement, last night the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals became the highest court in the nation to ever find that discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal under federal law!

It’s one of the most significant wins for LGBT equality in years – and it’s based on the increasing understanding held nationally that discriminating against someone because of who they love or who they are is wrong.

This case was brought by Lambda Legal on behalf of Kimberly Hively, a brave woman who shared her story and took her employer to court after being fired for kissing her then-girlfriend in the parking lot of where she worked.

Thank You Kimberly

Only twenty states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico have statutes that protect against both sexual orientation and gender identity discriminationin employment in the public and private sector. Hopefully this ruling will help protect LGBT citizens in the more than half the states that offer no such protections.
