Maine Governor Candidate Comes Out

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud represents Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. The Democrat is running for governor in the 2014 election and he just wrote a historical op-ed piece.

His basic point is "Yes, I'm gay. Now let's focus on more important things."

On the one had, he has a point. There are vastly more important things. On the other hand, it is still a risk for a candidate to come out so publicly before an election.

Time will tell if this was a good or a bad thing. In the meantime, we welcome Michael into the LGBT community.

Here is his op-ed in its entirety.
