StageWorks Fresno is staging the Valley premiere of “I Am My Own Wife,”
which won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize, and the Tony awards for best play
and lead actor Jefferson Mays, will run April 5-6-7 and 12-13-14 at the
Fresno Art Museum’s Bonner Auditorium.
“I Am My Own Wife,” is
an examination of the life of German antiquarian Charlotte von
Mahlsdorf, born Lothar Berfelde, who killed her father when she was a
young child and survived the Nazi and Communist regimes in East Berlin
as a transgendered person.
The
one-man show features local theater veteran Terry Lewis playing all 30
roles. Directing is Fresno State associate professor J. Daniel Herring.
