A major victory was achieved in Virginia this morning where a bill extending non-discrimination protections for LGBT workers made an advancement in the state legislature. SB701 was approved in the Senate of Virginia with a bipartisan vote of 24-16. Only days earlier was the initiative narrowly approved by a Senate committee. The bill would ban discrimination against state employees on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
SB701 now moves on to the House of Delegates where it faces a steep uphill climb in the more conservative chamber.
