In My Own Words: The Chick-Fil-A Rally

by Lorie Frye

The protest today (August 3rd) went very well, people were well rehearsed by Jason to be loving and peaceful. I met several new people and was very happy with the warmth they shared in our common cause.

Helen, my friend was passing out informational fliers, a man and his wife were going in to eat..he refused and told her to go kiss a dog. She responded with a smile.

Lots of cars honked and waved support but there were a few that gave thumbs down or the finger. When one man yelled "Faggots!" Our crowd just drowned him out with a yahoooooo!

As we were leaving a couple of women asked if they could give me something to read, a religious pamphlet, I said only if you promise to read mine. I handed them our informational flier and they agreed.

I was interviewed by the Bee.

I view the action as a success, I'm glad I attended, I almost didn't after reading the threats on the so-called.Christian sites, like we should be shot like the people in the theater and even worse. I feared that someone would be attacked or injured. Only one incident occurred, one of ours was crossing the road and a woman laid on her car horn, really overdoing it with a very hateful glare. I think I have a picture of that..but I prefer to display the positive pictures.

Lori's statement did make it into the Fresno Bee:

The protesters included Lori Frye, 58, of Fresno, who said she marched with Harvey Milk, San Francisco's first openly gay supervisor, in the 1970s in support of gay rights. "This is not about freedom of speech. This is about hurting individuals," Frye said. "I am going to continue on protesting until the day I die, because I am going to be treated as an equal before I go."

Thank you Lori!

    1. Well thank you for sharing that link, it is important information for those that are unaware. However, to answer the question, “Do you think that Chick Fill A is the only one?” I was asked to share about the Chik A Fil rally, that is what I did, but if you read the interview you would notice I’ve been fighting for equality since the 70’s beginning with Coors for Harvey Milk, and against Anita Bryant and Florida Orange Juice, both required a boycott to convey a message. There have been dozens of actions I've participated over the years calling for justice and human rights. So do I know Chick Fill A is not the only one? I know the others, and I don’t give them my money. I do appreciate the companies that support our fight for equality and that is why I’m asking everyone to thank these companies. For starters: Starbucks Appreciation Day, on Tuesday the 7th of August.
